9.16.09 Rockies 4, Giants 3: Bochy for President of the World

After a recent offensive explosion that included 19 runs on 20 hits in 2 games with THE EXACT SAME lineup, the San Francisco Giants were set to take the national stage and pull within 1½ games of the Wild Card.

Yeahhhh things were looking pretty good. Up until tonight’s lineup was announced and I can’t say that I was shocked. This random tampering of a lineup is exactly what I have come to expect from Bruce Bochy this year.

Bochy must have been chomping at the bit to play Edgar Renteria again after returning from a shoulder injury that only allows him to throw pain free at a certain angle. I’d be excited too!

He basically just took out a bat that hits .303 vs LHP (De La Rosa is a leftie) this year and is 3rd in the bigs in F PCT in Travis Ishikawa. All to make room for Renteria who hits .237 against LHP and has a worse F PCT than Ishi. Not an offensive move, not a defensive move, a dumb move.

No sooner than a mullet-powered home run by Troy Tulowitzki and a Clint Barmes shot off the wall, the Giants were in an uphill battle down 2-0 in the bottom of the 4th. It’s ok, with this offense the last few days we should still be able to get back in this thing (minus all the players that aren’t there or in the same slot)!

Torres leads off the bottom of the inning with a bouncer off the Chevron car in right and here we go! In what seems to be happening a bit too often for my liking Sanchez strikes out and up comes the Panda. Swinging at the first pitch Torres makes a little league baserunning mistake and is doubled up, inning over.

Moving onto the 6th, in what looked like a “close your eyes and swing as hard as you can at-bat” Ian Stewart goes 430 ft over the right center field wall, 4-0 in the 6th. Meanwhile, Jorge “Cy” De La Rosa is dealing and strikes out the 1-2-3 hitters with runners on 2nd and 3rd.

And now comes that patented old school miracle rally in the bottom of the ninth to help propel us with a gigantic monumental win! I’m in baby!

Then Bochy’s final redemption for the game came when Renteria was up with the game tying run on second.

No pinch hitter even though he was 0-3 including a double play and all with runners on.
A chance to save grace for“ The Dome” and salvage this game.  Weak pop fly to second followed by a Schierholtz strike out and it’s over.

It’s over.

I hate mullets.
