Sabean Fanboys Hold On A Minute

No, I’m not taking down my site.

It’s June 18th and the Giants are where they are supposed to be — in contention in their division. The team is rolling right now and the fans are on a high that hasn’t been felt since we had Kenny Lofton on our team.

The team is having fun, the offense is clicking and our pitching has been pretty gorgeous. But it’s June 18th.

Don’t get me wrong, I of all people would love to be proven wrong and have the Giants win the World Series this year. Sabean will be hailed a hero and I will be mocked for the rest of my life. This is something I want. Even a playoff appearance may be considered a victory. But it’s June 18th.

A lot of the Sabean fanboys are coming out of their holes they’ve been in for a decade, which is fine. They’re calling the Sabean-haters stupid for doubting his prophet-like moves of knowing Torres would totally change his approach, or that we’d catch Huff on a good year.

But me and just about every other Sabean-hater can and have admitted when we are wrong. If you actually read this blog I have given Sabean a lot of credit lately. His low-risk moves have turned out to be extremely good — despite the high-risk moves all falling through. But when a man’s track record over 14 years surely outweighs a good stretch in the Summer of ’10

Again, it’s June 18th. The bottom line is this management has produced below average numbers for many, many years now and missing the playoffs this year would surely be the end of someones tenure — whether it be Bochy, Sabean or Lou Seal.

But it’s been a fun season so far and his signings of Huff and Uribe have been pleasantly positive. Still, Rowand, Bengie, Derosa, Renteria, Wellemyer  etc. have all been and will be horrendous moves.

The only reason Uribe is shining is because of Renteria’s extremely old and hurt all the time. Before the season, the entire front office all stated Rent is the starting shortstop no matter what. Wellemeyer only got bounced from the rotation because he got hurt — despite a 5.00+ ERA. Posey is still at 1st base and the team isn’t quite there.

So bring on the trade deadline because everything that Sabean stands for is on the line and the only thing us fans can do is sit on our hands and hope.. HOPE I’m the one with pie on my face in October.

Because I’d rather be a champion and dumb, than a genius and a loser.

Yeah it’s annoying. I blame smug tools like Henry Schulman who stop at nothing to attack fans and play the “I told you so” card every time the Giants win a damn game. The media is a huge influence on opinion and the Bay Area media is full of myopic, Sabean-loving tools.
