Cuzzi – A History Of Blown Calls

Imagine you have a job in the kitchen at Burger King.. Someone orders a Whopper and you make a Spicy Chicken Sandwich. OK, not a big deal, maybe just a misunderstanding — it is lunch time and you’re busy.

Now imagine for three straight hours you make onion rings when they needed fries, french toast when they needed a double cheeseburger and a Whopper Jr. when they needed the — WHAT THE FU%& YOU CALLED HIM OUT?

I just wrapped up the busiest weekend of my life, I was en route from work to my buddies house and I missed the call. I don’t know if Bochy got tossed but he should have. This was much more than costing us a perfect game — we lost momentum, a sweep, and an undefeated second half.

Well, let’s go play the Dodgers now!

Maybe it’ll inspire the team, but I don’t know how inspirational a blown call and an unbelievable umpiring day can be.

In a season chalk full of “WTF” umping moments, I wrote this about the perfect game blown call a month ago..

But when guys get robbed of once in a lifetime, one of 23 men in baseball immortality.. it makes me want to shove cameras in front of every ump for the rest of time.

This wasn’t once in a lifetime, but a win is much more important. Anyone else now accept the fate that we’ll miss the playoffs by a half game this year? I mean, the Joyce blown call sucked, but you never truly know the pain until it happens to you.

I haven’t seen the movie “A History Of Violence”, but I want to start working on a parody..

  • ALDS – Blows call on a Joe Mauer double that arguably cost them the game
  • Blows call against the Giants — literally cost them the game
  • Was fired as a minor league umpire in 1993
  • The Mets and Braves tried to petition him to not be able to ump their game
  • Rasheed Wallace has less ejections than Phil Cuzzi (stat may not be true but good God)

So far a pretty good script.

So let’s see here, he’s from Newark, NJ and has made two blown calls that literally gave the Yankees and the Mets a win. He takes East Coast bias to a whole new level.

We can go into the instant replay debate if you want, but it won’t change last night and it won’t change Cuzzi. Yeah, we should have lost anyway because we played terribly, but a three-run rally in the bottom of the ninth to win the game and sweep the despicable Mets just before a series at the Chavez Ravine?

What an unbelievable joke.

Notice how on this Google search there isn’t just “Cuzzi blown call” but it’s also pluralized?

As for your job at Burger King? You were fired that day, they said you were incompetent and couldn’t handle the responsibilities given to you. Surprised?

It’s not about how nice the guy is, how many good games he’s called or his family life. It’s about a guy who has a history of not doing his job correctly.

Jim Joyce cried and we all forgave him, but Cuzzi will have come up with a doozie to top that.

He won’t, and the Giants will always be known as losers on July 18, 2010.

This is probably the call that will guarantee that he umps in
the playoffs and perhaps the world series! It would be as if
the Yanks/Mets have an extra man on the field.

Here are a few other examples of idiocy:

That article does a great job of explaining how ridiculous it is that Phil Cuzzi is still a major league ump.

At least Joyce’s call was pretty bang bang and close, then he showed remorse for what he did. Kooky’s call wasn’t even close and dude flat out didn’t give a rats Ass either way.

Still pissed 2 daya later. I hope he loses his job, but that’s asking too much. Hopefully they at least give him a lengthy suspension without pay.
