POST-GAME: The Odd Couple

To get truly into this POST-GAME, I’d advise looping this theme song in the background.

One was born in Leesburg, Georgia… Population: 2,633. The other, Aguadilla, Puerto Rico… Population: 64,685. One played in 172 minor league games. The other, 1,022. One has an amazing, truly flawless swing. The other had a different swing last year.

But these two guys, who are completely different, shared the same spotlight in Thursday night’s 3-0 win. They’re the new Odd Couple.

The natural rookie — who has been highly touted his entire adult life — meets the 10th-year rookie — who has been highly touted the past four months. Both have transcended this team, while guys like Pablo Sandoval and Aaron Rowand are struggling to keep up.

So when Posey hit an RBI-single in the first inning, it could only be accompanied two innings later by an Andres Torres 420-foot missile.

Oh and I can’t forget Matt Cain’s three-hitter.. That’s four hits in 17 total innings.

This feels like the middle of the movie where everything looks like it’s going to end great. Our protagonists are both highly successful — and together they have helped the Giants to a 10-game over .500 playoff caliber record. But in movies, this is also when something terrible is about to happen. Something that tries the characters of everyone involved.

Now as most of you know, I’m an eternal optimist. But if I were pessimistic I would warn everyone not to get too excited because there will be the eventual letdown.

But I’m not a pessimist, so I will continue to believe that these two opposites will lead this team to one promise land. A Hollywood ending for the city by the Bay. I’d download it… Scratch that.. I’d even pay to see it in the theaters..

    1. Both are amazing talents and are the sole reason the Giants are still in contention.
