Ratto: Here’s Your ‘Lynch Sabean’ Mob
ATTENTION ALL SABEAN BACKERS, IT IS JULY 29TH. CAPS LOCK.
Ray Ratto recently wrote an article titled: “Where’s The ‘Lynch Sabean’ Crowd Now?” And it seems the flock of Brian-backers have emerged from their cocoons once again.
In the article, Ray told me I am wrong about everything, Sabean is a mastermind and Santa doesn’t exist.
And with the Giants winning all over the place, it’s easy to believe it.
But let’s look WAAAYY back to last year where San Francisco led the wild-card for over two months and even finished 14 games over .500.
Sure, it’s a different year, but the backers are acting like we won the World Series, Super Bowl and Wimbledon. Get excited about how great the Giants look, hell yeah, but this proves nothing.
So now it’s time to choose your side: Team Fire Sabean or Team I Love Sabean.
I think we all know where I stand. When Brian Sabean puts a ring on his finger give me as much crap as you can. Hell, when we make it to the World Series then shovel the crap at me.
But right now, Sabean has put the Giants in the playoffs four times in 14 years. Three out of four were first-round losses with a record of 2-9. The other is the year that never existed. That was not his fault, no, but that was his chance. And for some reason we’ve given him eight more years despite not seeing the playoffs since 2003.
We can go into the signings, trades and blah blah blah but bottom line is we have nothing to show for the past 14 years.
Normally a GM gets 5-6 years and there’s only been one San Francisco GM who has lasted longer than six years — Brian Sabean.
Yes this is a hot stretch, yes this team is for real. But the playoffs are a LONG ways away. Of course everyone is entitled to chirp — even Ratto — but let’s wait until September before we take baths in Dom Perignon.
For now I will continue to root for this team, wear my colors and hope that this is the year we can finally bless FOX with our talents.
But until then I will have my noose ready because apparently we’re not only firing the guy but we’re hanging him from a tree.

A wise man once said “If youre not first, youre last.” Enut and Shane, I’m sure its difficult for you to comprehend this so let me break it down for you ( I’ll even put it into baseball terms to dumb it down). If you don’t win the world series, you end the season the same place as the worst team in the leaque. I’d personally like to say I saw the Giants win the World Series at some point in my lifetime. As a Giants fan since birth, I do not have the luxury to make such a claim. With the lack of STRONG acquistions, poor trade decisions, and trading players away from a box of cracker jacks and some pocket lint, its easy for most fans to become upset with management. Even with the great Barry Bonds, Sabean still wasn’t able to build a supporting cast strong enough to make it count. The greatest coach in the world won’t win a Ring if the talent pool isn’t good enough. All the Sabean haters ask, is to atleast make an EFFORT to acquire some STRONG talent.

Ratto wants to blame Magowan for Zito’s contract but, then wants to give him credit for the recent pitching success when everyone knows Sabean has nothing to do with the pitching? As I have tried explaining to FS, it doesn’t matter what torres was before this year(an .850 OPS I might add, 2009) or if Huff was his third choice. That doesn’t make it a “weak” acquisition like you claim. He took low-risk flyers on both guys and it panned out. It’s actually one of his better traits, it doesn’t always work out, but he’s pretty good at striking gold when dumpster diving.

The site was bought last August during our downward spiral, I didn’t do a lot with it until February. Obviously this wasn’t bought since we’ve been in contention.

I’m still not totally in the fire-sabean category (although I do own a fire0-sabean shirt
) but I do know that Ray Ratto is one of the worst journalists out there. Close to as bad as Skip Bayless in my opinion!
