Trade Deadline Gettin’ Steamy!
Well this is the part of the year where we start wondering if we really can get guys like Chipper Jones and Sammy Sosa for a discount price..
We start hearing that we realistically can get studs like Vladimir Guerrero and Adam Dunn…
We all know these are lies. They were lies 10 years ago and they are lies now. Funny how Dunn is actually still in the picture, but Washington’s price is extremely heavy — probably a truck full of prospects or Matt Cain.
And then we have to look at our GM. Baggs put it perfectly when he said:
The Giants are exploring all avenues to improve their offense, and that means “checking off boxes” and “kicking tires” and “doing the due diligence voodoo that they do.”
In other words we’ll get Theriot on July 30th and we’ll miss the playoffs by three game.
I love speculating and making guesses about our season; I love assessing values of players; and I love fantasizing about the bats that could come by the Bay… But when it comes to trading I’m like a small child at a strip club — Everything looks nice, but I have no idea what I’m doing.. And that’s because my friend Sabes is pretty much unpredictable.
I’m still a Dejesus guy, for the right price, through and through. I don’t think Corey Hart’s price has or will drop and Dunn is just as likely to come to San Francisco as Lebron James.
So in this jumbled mess known as a trade speculation post, I leave you with this:
Sabean is Sabean and will always be Sabean. He is so methodical and thorough with his trades that he makes sure to never end up with guys like Ryan Garko.. Seriously though, I have no freaking idea. The rumors are going to get pretty heated, though, and I’m just going to sit back and relax…
Because I know somehow.. someway Sabean will screw this up.

We need another goddamn arm. Yeah, I know, I know. Don’t we need a bat more? No. Not if that bat is going to be Theriot. Go get me another arm for the pen, Brian. Who you ask? Don’t know and I don’t care. Not my problem. OK, someone who throw strikes and gets people out. How ’bout one of those guys. “Check off a box,” “kick a tire,” I don’t care. Just get me another arm for the pen.

I’m the same way. These trade rumors fascinate me and over and over again I debate with other fans about players the Giants have interest in.
But when it all comes down to it, almost none of it ever happens, and Brian Sabean probably doesn’t have enough guts to trade for one of these guys anyway. Maybe the best solution is to do what you suggest: sit back, relax, and prepare to be disappointed by Brian Sabean.

Sounds like Dennis needs to get back to opening day in Del Mar. Yes, lets put another arm in our bullpen. Maybe then we will win a game with ZERO runs scored…….Sorry Dennis, we needs RUN SUPPORT.

I think he’s trying to say a good arm will be easier to get than an impact hitter.
But we really need them both haha

Sabean starting his annual excuse making and dumb cliches. This is soon to be followed by a deal for a non-impact player. The next GarkenBrand, come on down!!!

Sabean downplayed the chances of a “blockbuster” deal before the deadline, saying, “I don’t see it presenting itself at this time, a) with the names out there, b) we’re not going to give up pitching and c) we’re not going to break the bank, especially for a rental. Do we have enough balls in the air to do something to help the ballclub? I hope so.”
