Trade Deadline HEATS U-.. Whoa, What?
Eric brought this to my attention and let me just paraphrase my friend Hank Schulman,
Sabean downplayed the chances of a “blockbuster” deal before the deadline, saying, “I don’t see it presenting itself at this time, a) with the names out there, b) we’re not going to give up pitching and c) we’re not going to break the bank, especially for a rental. Do we have enough balls in the air to do something to help the ballclub? I hope so.
OK, I just copied and pasted but whatever. Anyone else imagine Sabean juggling balls while kicking tires and spouting out “I’m a big boy”?
Sorry for clogging up the main page lately, but this will probably be the last trade post simply because I can see the white flag from here. Again, as Schulster put it, we’ll get a relief pitcher — (hopefully someone who throws hard and is right-handed because we are in need of one of those!!!!!!!111)
And reports are now coming in that David Dejesus is out for the year with his thumb injury.. Some say Sabean dodged a bullet because Dejesus wasn’t worth the asking price.
I’m not sure if Sabean even had the guts to do anything with him, but with Derosa getting hurt (enter Huff and Torres) and Wellemeyer getting hurt (enter Bumgarner) I think the baseball Gods are assisting us in what could be a magical season.
I just took my temperature and I have lost my trade fever.. sigh…

Something needs to be done to strengthen that lineup. What about Matt Cain for Hanley Ramirez???

HA! cain for rameriz?! that would NEVER HAPPEN! giants wont give up starting pitching and Florida wont give up one of their two bright spots for the future. but all that aside if you had Ramierz on your team you would NEVER EVER trade him for matt cain, talent level as vastly different.

It seems as if every year come july i start to clammor for Sabean to pick up a bat, but this year I seem to be more inclined to stand pat. Of course, I would love to be able to grab Prince Fielder but it just doesnt seem realistic, or wise, unless you can sign him to an extention. Although it would be cool to watch the full arc or the Zito-Fielder relationship, as they become best friends once Fielder hits a late inning 3 run bomb into the cove to get Zito a win. Other than that, you can’t have enough relief pitching so i would not be opposed to going out and getting another left handed reliver to face the likes of Adrian Gonzales, Andre Ethier(it hurts to type his name), Tod Helton, and other left handed Giant killers down the stretch. Maybe its the chemistry of this ballclub, the loyalty to players they already have, or most likely the fact that i’m blinded by the current winning streak but I would not be upset if the Giants were quiet come the trade deadline.

Post of the year Smith, well put.
You echo the ever-changing belief as an entire fan base. I think we always get blinded in a winning streak, but you’re right about the chemistry these guys have, a la 2000-ish Sacramento Kings…
Let’s hope it ends better than that, though..
